WhereIsIt NFO Plugin Question

Submitted by Anonymous on Wed, 02/09/2005 - 16:10.WhereIsIt NFO Plugin

Yay, just what I needed.

BUT: I can't get it working :(

I have its priority set even higher than the DIZ plugin (in fact it's topmost) but still WhereIsIt only displays the tiny DIZ file at bottom. I'm not familiar with WhereIsIt enough (since it lacked the NFO feature before)., am I just being stupid ? I accidentally also close the DIZ window and don't know how to bring it back either, so I must be ;)

Either way, can you give some details how I can later retrieve the NFO information without inserting the media again please ?

Thanks

Well for starters I'm using v3.62, if you're using something earlier (or newer) the plugin probably just broke. I did after all only spend an hour or two hacking it together.

For now though I'll go on the assumption that you're just having difficulties getting it to update information that you already have in your WhereIsIt catalog. If this is the case all you should have to do is:

  1. click the particular disc you're interested in updating,
  2. right click and select "Update Disk Image,"
  3. then click Update Mode
  4. followed by, "Discard all existing descriptions"

Once you've done this make sure you have:

  1. "Browse inside compressed files (ZIP, ARJ, RAR...)" checked
  2. "Look only for descriptions do not import file contents" checked
  3. "Allow quick archive scan when updating disk image" checked
  4. Last but not least, click "Active Plugins" and make sure "NFO Viewer" is checked.

That should be it. That'll go through and update each compressed file and/or folder to display the nfo. I hope that works for you.

Cheers.

Hi,

Nice plugin!
But it seems to cut off the ends, could you make the max NFO size a few times longer?

Huh, it shouldn't cut off, it just takes the file descriptor and starts reading till it hits an EOF.

You might want to check in:
Options->General Settings->Disk Image and then play with Max Description.

I'll look in to it, I planned on working on this some more this week now that I'm going through and recataloging :).

Tell me if changing the `Max Description Size` works.

That was the solution!
Works fine now, with WhereIsIt v3.65.

Thanks again, for the help, and this lovely plug-in. :)

Glad to assist :). I'll be updating the plugin with a few new updates in the not so distant future. So if your catalog's getting a little bloated, this should help cut it down to size.

Great plugin, I set it up as stated in the previous replies with description size set to max :). Works perfectly and I'm using the latest version.

Just out of curiosity, is there a way to setup whereisit or your plugin to actually save the NFO file itself in the catalog and be accessed from within Whereisit and open in an external application (i.e. DAMN NFO Viewer) and not just the included viewer?

Thanks a lot.

Setting up WhereIsIt to use an external editor is very doable. However it would involve creating new UI and a bunch of additional logic to link the two together. Given the time I'd definitely give it a go. Unfortunately for the next two to three months I'll be busy slaving away at work.

As a quick hack I may be able to force the WhereIsIt editor to use a fixed font face. Then I can probably tell it to use something like Terminal to correctly scale the ASCII art.

I'll post if I make any changes.

Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks for the reply. If you do include that feature that'd be great and any future updates.

Keep up the great work.
